Patrolling Coastlines: Offshore Patrol Vessels undertake routine patrols along national coastlines and exclusive economic zones to monitor for any suspicious or illegal activities at sea. Their presence acts as a deterrent for criminals and also helps detect criminal plans or actions early.

Interdiction and Law Enforcement: When OPV patrols encounter any suspicious ships or boats engaged in illegal activities, they have the ability and authority to stop, board, search and apprehend them if found guilty. OPVs play an active law enforcement role at sea.

In recent times, OPVs have been involved in various operations like thwarting attempted drug shipments, apprehending suspicious fishing vessels, anti-smuggling drives, search and rescue and disaster relief efforts. They also provide security cover for critical infrastructure along coasts.
