Introduction

Wired burglar alarm systems are, at times, bulky because a package may contain long lengths of wire. This is so true when using home security camera systems.

A wired home surveillance camera system uses bulkier wires in its power supply to the camera and more cumbersome cables for the video output from the camera to the monitor, recorder, or both. Video output wires are bulkier because of the so-called ground shielding. This ensures the video transmission keeps the signal going into the writer or video monitor.

In this same sense, power supply wires should be more significant to cover longer distances.

This would ensure that the correct voltage reaches the home security cameras. Thinner wires may lessen the voltage at the endpoint where, let us say, an outdoor security camera may be connected and thus severely affect the regular operation of such a home surveillance camera system.

Another factor to consider in a wired home surveillance camera system would be the laying of wires. The wiring should be connected properly, rightfully, and appropriately to their points of connection securely. For wired home security alarms, wires should be concealed or undetectable to avoid transgressions against them that may partially or totally disable the whole burglar alarm system itself. Outdoor security camera wiring should also be protected from the elements: the weather, animals, humans, and even plants or trees.

The best security alarms are not only limited to the equipment used, but they definitely include the proper wiring themselves. This is very accurate for in-home surveillance camera systems, especially those that incorporate audio in the video. Users may know how to connect the wiring, but most need help laying down these wires properly.

Wireless home surveillance cameras make things simpler when setting up your security cameras. Wireless security cameras can be set up anywhere, especially if such home surveillance camera systems are equipped with their own recorders. Recorders may be in the form of tapes, CDs, discrete components comprising digital recordings, or even hard disk drives.

Wireless home surveillance cameras may also use security cameras that transmit signals to a monitor, recorder, or both, just like a TV broadcasting system where cameras are used to capture scenes. These are broadcast or transmitted through the air. Such transmissions are received by television sets, and the signal appearing on the screens depends now on what bandwidth or channel was chosen by the viewer.

How to Maximize Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Usage on Your Video Surveillance System

These tips can help:

  • Determine your current record time. Allow the system to run until the hard disk drive (HDD) is at 100% capacity. Once complete, check to see how old the oldest video is. Note the number of days that you currently have.

  • Record only motion. We strongly recommend recording only on motion detection. The continuous recording makes it harder to search your video and uses much more hard drive capacity than motion recording.

  • "Mask" your motion recording; look for areas with constant "background" motion, such as ceiling fans, trees, and highways (even outside a window), that cause false alarms. Our DVR systems allow you to ignore motion in parts of the camera image, significantly reducing the number of false alarms and your HDD usage. For example, a ceiling fan might cause a camera to constantly record; setting the system to ignore the area of the fan will extend your recording time.

  • Reduce the picture quality on your less-important cameras. Some cameras are less critical than others; set those cameras to a lower rate, and you'll see savings in your HDD usage.

  • Reduce the number of images per second you record per camera. We generally don't recommend this since your video will appear less smooth.

  • Get more hard drives! When all else fails, an inexpensive solution is to add additional purposes to your DVR system. You can double or triple your recording time for a few hundred dollars. Our PC systems are incredibly flexible and can hold 4 terabytes (4000 GB!) or more.

Conclusion

Wireless home security cameras are suitable for you instead of wired ones because they can be easily, readily, and more quickly installed by yourself. In contrast, with wired home security camera systems ontario, you need a contractor likely to have them installed, which would cost more and take longer. And consider that your home security alarm secrets are with your contractor too, which could translate to your home security being compromised if that contractor is of ill repute.

Most customers with digital security camera systems in their homes or offices will ask how to extend the recording time of their system.
