Some iron casting buyers may be confused between ductile iron and gray iron, so here we discuss the difference between ductile iron and gray iron.

The graphite in gray cast iron is flake, while the graphite in ductile iron is spherical. Therefore, compared with ductile iron, gray cast iron has lower strength and is brittle. However, the production cost of gray cast iron is low, it is easy to cast, and has good shock absorption and wear resistance.

Therefore, gray cast iron is often used to produce low-strength castings such as bases, counterweights, boxes, stove parts, etc. Ductile iron is commonly used to produce high strength and ductile castings such as brackets, crankshafts, connecting rods, etc. Ductile iron has greater applications than grey cast iron.
