The beginnings of A Class in Miracles can be traced back again to the relationship between two people, Helen Schucman and Bill Thetford, both of whom were outstanding psychologists and researchers. The course's inception happened in the first 1960s when Schucman, who was a scientific and research psychologist at Columbia University's School of Physicians and Surgeons, started to have some internal dictations. She explained these dictations as originating from an internal style that identified itself as Jesus Christ. Schucman originally resisted these experiences, but with Thetford's support, she started transcribing the messages she received.
Around a period of seven years, Schucman transcribed what might become A Program in Wonders, amounting to three amounts: the Text, the Workbook for Students, and the Handbook for a course in miracles. The Text lies out the theoretical foundation of the class, elaborating on the primary concepts and principles. The Workbook for Pupils includes 365 classes, one for each day of the entire year, designed to guide the audience through a everyday exercise of using the course's teachings. The Manual for Teachers gives further advice on how best to understand and train the rules of A Program in Miracles to others.
One of many main subjects of A Program in Wonders is the idea of forgiveness. The class shows that true forgiveness is the key to internal peace and awareness to one's heavenly nature. According to their teachings, forgiveness isn't simply a moral or ethical training but a elementary shift in perception. It involves making get of judgments, grievances, and the understanding of sin, and as an alternative, seeing the world and oneself through the lens of love and acceptance. A Program in Miracles highlights that true forgiveness leads to the acceptance that people are interconnected and that divorce from each other is an illusion.
Yet another significant part of A Class in Wonders is its metaphysical foundation. The course presents a dualistic view of reality, unique between the pride, which shows separation, fear, and illusions, and the Sacred Heart, which symbolizes enjoy, truth, and spiritual guidance. It shows that the pride is the foundation of suffering and struggle, whilst the Sacred Soul provides a pathway to healing and awakening. The goal of the program is to simply help people transcend the ego's limited perspective and arrange with the Sacred Spirit's guidance.
